Dear Members of the Lasallian Community,

Our nation is experiencing a very challenging time caused by Typhoon Pedring. Today, we are all back to our usual operations in the University, resuming our normal day-to-day lives. However, as our response to this difficult time in the bigger community, De La Salle University is launching SAGIP METRO 2 which is our relief operation to address the immediate needs of typhoon victims.

In yesterday’s meeting, initiated by the Office of the Lasallian Mission and COSCA, together with our student leaders and volunteers, we have identified our different partner- communities from Baseco, San Mateo, Novotas, Malabon, Lian and Bagac, as our priority beneficiaries.  Likewise, we would also like to offer assistance to members of the DLSU Faculty and Staff who have also been badly affected by Typhoon Pedring.

Based on the initial reports from our different partner communities, there are a total of 14,448 families from these communities who are badly in need of our assistance.

We would like to appeal to everyone’s generosity to donate goods or to do volunteer sorting/distribution work with us. The Citizen Disaster Response Network (CDRN) released a standard list of suggested relief goods consisting of the following as food items– rice, sugar, dried fish, mung beans, sardines, cooking oil, salt; and as non-food items -  laundry soap, cooking utensils, mats, water containers, clothing and plastic sheets/tarps.

Through the efforts of our University Student Government, drop boxes have been conveniently stationed in our different gates for these. Cash donations can be forwarded to our Accounting Office.

For members of the DLSU Faculty and Staff who may need immediate assistance, you may contact Ms. Cynthia Pendatun from the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Lasallian Mission and Alumni Relations through email: Cynthia.pendatun@dlsu.edu.ph and at local 120.

It is during these trying times that we clearly appreciate our Lasallian value of communion in mission. We hope we can all contribute in our own ways to this call.
